Naturally Luminous is a Langley (and Kamloops) based small business run by sisters Morgan and Abbey. They create natural home and beauty products out of high quality, CPTG Pure Therapeutic Grade essential oils. They make amazing products and we featured their hand sanitizer in the Spring Cleaning themed March edition. I sent them our interview questions so that we can get to know these local entrepreneurs.
What services or products you offer?
We are Naturally Luminous, a line of mostly natural bath, body, and home care and have recently started a men’s line.
2. When did you start your company, what gave you the idea to start, what you love the most about it?
We officially started our company in 2017, but have been experimenting with the idea of creating our own home and beauty products for some time. We were introduced to essential oils from a good friend and fell in love. We have always tried to live as natural as we could and strive to make the most ethical choices. After a little while of doing our own thing, we decided to go the full pull and create what we now proudly call Naturally Luminous.
3. Anything else you would like to add about your company?
We love natural products that reduce the use of chemicals in our daily lives. We also love to recycle, which is why we have created a refill program. It’s a small step we can make to create a world without waste.
4) Where do you see your business in the next year? In the next five years? The next ten years?
We are currently in the early second year of business and couldn’t be more proud of where we are today. We hope to keep our company growing as organically as we can and we hope to see our products in a few more stores throughout the Lower Mainland and Kamloops! In five years, well, we would love to not only have our product line expand, but we would also love to be in stores across Canada! 10 years.... hmmmm let’s work through the first five haha!
5) Tell us a little about yourself.
We are Morgan and Abbey. Sisters turned best friends turned business partners. We grew up in Walnut Grove, a small suburb in Langley, and are two of five kids! Morgan is the oldest and Abbey is the middle child.
Morgan is a Royal Academy of Dance certified ballet teacher outside of her work with Naturally Luminous. After taking many years to perform, teach, and create in the art of dance, she was looking for something that would keep her at home more with her kids — what a better way then to create in an entirely new art platform. Although she is a full time Dance Instructor, she works tirelessly to raise her family and create a business she and her sister are very proud of. Morgan and her husband moved back to Walnut Grove to raise their three children about 5 years ago and couldn’t be happier to be back where she grew up.
Abbey moved to Kamloops after graduating from high school to attend and play soccer at Thompson Rivers University. After graduating with her Bachelor of Arts, Abbey was employed by the TRU Students’ Union as the Services Coordinator and has remained in Kamloops since. Outside of Naturally Luminous, Abbey works in insurance. Other than experimenting with making products for the last couple of years, her past employment with the Students’ Union opened her eyes to additional possibilities for living a more sustainable lifestyle!
6) What do you love about living in the Fraser Valley
We’ll let Morgan take this one since Abbey hasn’t lived in the Fraser Valley in over 10 years!
There are so many great things about living in the Fraser Valley. The scenery and acceptability are two of my top favs. I love that I am 30 minutes away from the “Big” city, but also 30 away from the lake, or a great farm to pick berries with my family. The scenery, like come on... does it get any better? From mountains to the ocean, you can truly enjoy the best of both worlds all at once. We are so lucky.
7) What kind of involvement do you have in the community?
We have donated our products for various organizations/groups/charities, like the Restore Box Project, The Latitude Project, and the Kira Shines Gold Tournament Fundraiser. In our first year of business, we were vendors with the Kamloops Famer’s Market and shortly after became vendors at an adorable boutique, Far and Wide, in Kamloops. In the Lower Mainland, we became a vendor at the beautiful local shop called The Local Space.
Outside of our store vendors and markets, you can see our products in:
• Collaborations: Hand Lettered Love and Justine Pope
• Subscription Boxes: Locate the Local and Locally Obsessed
Anything to add?
We were recently nominated and awarded the Best Home-Based Business for the 2019 Kamloops This Week Reader's Choice Awards.
We would like to thank everyone who has supported us on our journey so far!
